National Lottery grant awarded to local disability arts group for World War One project

A National Lottery Grant of £9,300 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is funding a year-long project, ‘World War One and Disability’, to run along-side the weekly painting class every Wednesday 9.30am -12pm and 1pm to 3.30pm term-time, held at The Westbury Centre, Westlea Road, South Leamington Spa, CV31 3JE.

Made possible by money raised by National lottery players, the project will look at attitudes to disability, then and now, as well as advancements in the treatment of people who were disabled and injured, as a result of the war. It will also explore war art, war artists and illustrators who recorded the battles and the reality of daily life.

Participants will visit the National Memorial Arboretum, Imperial War Museum and Warwick Records Office as well as attending talks about different aspects of WW1.
Painting for Pleasure welcomes existing and new participants to come along and join in this interesting project and meet new people.
