Compton Verney Trip

Our recent Painting for Pleasure class outing to Compton Verney proved to be a truly inspiring day, filled with art, conversation, and shared discovery. We arrived just in time to join a fascinating guided talk on a remarkable exhibition exploring Dutch and Flemish drawing.

Featuring over 60 works from the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium - many never before seen in the UK - the exhibition offered a rare glimpse into the creative processes of 16th and 17th century masters. Artists such as Bruegel, Rembrandt, Rubens, and Jordaens revealed the power of drawing not just as preparation, but as storytelling in its own right. Using charcoal, ink, and chalk, they captured scenes rich with beauty, struggle, and imagination during a time of immense social, political, and religious change.

One of the highlights was Bruegel’s Prudence, a striking and intricate work from his celebrated Seven Virtues series. As we looked closely, it became clear that these drawings were more than technical exercises—they were windows into a changing world, blending observation with imagination in compelling and unexpected ways.

After the talk, we enjoyed a relaxed lunch together before splitting into smaller groups to explore the galleries at our own pace. The Folk Art galleries were a particular favourite, with several members captivated by the character and charm of the works on display.

This enriching trip was made possible as part of our grant from The Coventry Building Society Small Fund, and it offered not only artistic inspiration but also a wonderful opportunity to connect and share our love of art beyond the classroom.

Christmas Tree Festival 2025

Our tree is called ‘The Useful Tree’ — because everything on it has a purpose.

We celebrate the festive season together by hand-painting Christmas cards, a cherished Christmas tradition, and decorating baubles inspired by imagination and creativity.

Come and view the Festival in the beautiful Parish Church setting. We would love it if you voted for our tree.

Painting for Pleasure at Warwick Folk Festival 2025

Our group has been busy creating a series of colourful boards to decorate an entertainment area at this year’s Warwick Folk Festival. The theme was Myths and Legends, and our artists let their imaginations run wild! From unicorns and fairies to magical forests and legendary figures, each painting tells its own unique story.

It was a joy to see our artwork brighten up the festival and share a little creativity with the community.

Painting for Pleasure Art Exhibition at Coffee Break

Dates: Thursday 27th and Friday 28th June
Location: Coffee Break, 12 Royal Priors, Upper Mall, Leamington Spa, CV32 4XT

Join us for a captivating display of creativity at the Painting for Pleasure art exhibition, hosted at Coffee Break in the Royal Priors on the 27th and 28th of June. This special event showcases the artistic talents of members from the Painting for Pleasure charity, a dedicated group in Leamington Spa that provides a creative outlet for disabled individuals, those living with or recovering from illness, and carers seeking respite and connection.

The exhibition will feature an array of artworks, including drawings, paintings, and beautiful silk paintings. These pieces are not only a testament to the artistic skills of the group members but also reflect their personal journeys and the therapeutic benefits of creative expression. Many of the works are inspired by a recent visit to the Makers through the Ages exhibition at Compton Verney.

Painting for Pleasure is more than just an art group; it is a supportive community that combats isolation and fosters well-being through art. This exhibition is a celebration of their collective efforts and the joy that comes from creating and sharing art.

We invite you to come and experience this inspiring collection, support the artists, and learn more about the valuable work of Painting for Pleasure. Your presence and encouragement mean a lot to the artists and contribute to the vibrant community spirit of Leamington Spa.
